Not really proud...

(Redhead's Note: Please forgive anything that's more lame than normal, or anything that sounds weird; I'm on a constant regimen of cough syrup...)

I started getting a chest tickle on the 8th, which quickly escalated to a hacking cough, and now 6 days later has my left nostril clogged.

I'm sick.


Lame sauce, I know. When I'm sick I'm kind of a pathetic being: I get whiny, I'm tired all the time, I'm fairly selfish ("Your car died?? But... But... I'm sick....")*- it's not a pretty sight. What else tends to happen is I will eat a lot. I'm not one of those people that gets sick and doesn't eat for 3 days. Oh if only!

Nope, I'm that girl that gets sick and will find every last semblance of comfort food, and vacuum it up into my sick mouth hole. Handful of chocolate chips? Don't mind if I do. A small-ish spoon of Nutella? Yes please? 4 lbs of bread? Why don't mind if I do!

Thankfully the only real example from all of those was the Nutella. Who can really resist Nutella? It's a magical creation!

it just didn't want you to find out this way. 
This weekend, I'm sad to say, was no different than my usual sickie binge. There was a lot of Mexican food. And ice cream. Maybe a little more Mexican food.

No Mexican ice cream though. I have boundaries when I'm ill.

Not really, who are we kidding here? I just didn't think of it until now.

Anyway. As I've mentioned before this blog is for accountability's sake. So I'll tell you that I saw this awful, awful picture on Pinterest...
Clearly we have different things we eat in private...
This never, ever dawned on me. Yeah, OK, overall I eat pretty well. But when I cheat, I don't just cheat with a spoon of peanut butter. I cheat hard. But because they're "small" incidents, I don't think of them as often. However when there are multiple incidents per day, multiple days in a row, well... I wonder why I can't lose weight??

I'm not proud of this. But I feel like I need to be honest with myself and with anyone that skims this blog if I'm going to get anywhere in my weight loss journey. A small bowl of ice cream twice a day is not going to hide under my too-tight skirt.

I'm trying to actively remember that what I eat when no one's looking, still demands attention on my thighs and stomach.

I will admit, I'm quite pleased that despite my awful Mexican food and ice cream gluttony this weekend, the volume was a lot less. I went out to 2 different Mexican places, and both times I only ate 1/2 my plate (or less!). Yeah I had a bit of ice cream this weekend, but I scooped out a bit and put it into a dish. I'm not proud of the grease factor I ate, but I am really happy with the smaller volume that made it's way to my stomach.

Anyone else have food issues like I do??

*This never happened. I was just making a point. I'm not that bad!! ;-)

  1. I'm the same way when sick. I crave comfort food. And because I feel lousy, I feel like I deserve it. But really it's just hurting me. What I eat doesn't affect anyone else, just me. I have a hard time remembering that. I'm cheating myself.

    I saw this quote on a friend's facebook page: If you keep good food in your fridge, you will eat good food.

    There is a lot of truth to that. And that's why we try to limit the amount of processed or junk food we buy. Because I'd much rather eat that than some fruit or veggies. Of course that didn't stop me from driving to the store Monday evening for the sole purpose of buying a bag of barbeque chips. At least it made me consciously decide I am going to eat those chips instead of just mindlessly snacking from the pantry.

  2. I, too, go for comfort food when I don't feel well, but I think my sick time comfort foods differ from yours. Chicken Noodle Soup. Tomato soup with grilled cheese. Tea.

    And good for you for only eating half of the portions served at the Mexican Restaurant! I've been trying to do that at some places, too. Like ordering something from Cheesecake Factory and asking for a box at the start so I can put half in right away to use for lunch, or dinner, the next day. So GO YOU!!!

    On another note, if you have a Magic Bullet blender, it is so easy to make single servings of homemade smoothies. If you have frozen, or fresh berries cleaned and prepped already, and some yogurt, fast and easy snack or breakfast addition. And now that I know (Thanks to Red Swing Shoes) that Tropical Smoothie adds a full cup of turbinado (sugar in the raw) to their smoothies, I think I'm going to think twice about how I order smoothies there...

Shame Eating

I found the above image on the interwebs and it always makes me laugh. All.the.time. It's kinda true though, right? Of pizza and fudge [cake]

There comes a time in every girl's life when she has to make a choice. 1 slice or 2? "It's margherita pizza, redhead. How bad can it really be?" I stood in line at a local pizza place eyeing up their margherita pizza with it's circular discs of cheese, smattering of tomatoes, and dried basil leaves. "Yeah, how bad can  it be?" Sometimes in life you order 2 pieces. Sometimes those 2 pieces come out to you falling off of 2 paper plates. Sometimes you look and say "SWEET MERCY I'M ONLY EATING ONE OF THOSE!!". Today was not a day to only eat one of those. Well to be fair, it was, I just didn't bother to acknowledge that until I'd plowed my way through ½ of my second  slice. What's Your Excuse?

I can't find my sneakers. It's too hot out. My clothes are all dirty. Where's my gym bag? I can't find my sports bra. (grumble grumble grumble) So what's your excuse for not working out? The top [lame] excuse has been mine the last few weeks. Since we moved into our house, I literally cannot find my sneakers. I thought they were in my gym bag, which I also couldn't find, but once my husband (hehe) found the bag, I discovered there were still no  gym sneakers. I've been living a blissful yet slightly fearful state for the last month-ish because I haven't weighed or measured myself since before the wedding.
