21 Day Fix: Round 2

So we finished our first round of 21 day fix! We decided to take a week off and then resume on Monday the 8th. Someone asked me why we decided to take a week off- why didn't we just keep doing it?

Well, in short... I guess I wanted to see what would happen. Would I continue my fancy new healthy habits, or would I go back to huge spoonfuls of nutella and endless pieces of bread? (Shut up, this is a judgement-free zone!)

The greatest gif of all time. Thanks Makeagif!
So how did we do? I'm sure you're all just dying to know. ;)

Thanks Bookish!
Well, we did... Ok? It started out pretty good. We still had a lot of food prepped from the Fix so it made sense to just keep eating healthily. I tried a donut sample from Whole Foods (which means it was probably super healthy), and I took 1 small bite and had to throw the rest out- it was just too sweet! I went out to dinner with a friend and we split a sandwich and the fries. It was just enough, I was really satisfied, aaannnd I realized that ketchup is crazy sweet.

It did go a bit downhill for me towards the end of the week. Hubbins has never had a ravenous sweet tooth. I, on the other hand, salivate at the mere mention of dessert. I get this crazy-eyed look, my hair stands up on end, and my tongue does a jig of joy until dessert is in my mouth, in which case there are grunts of happiness.

I know. Vivid picture. You. Are. Welcome.

So yeah. I'm "kind of" into desserts. and sugar poured on sugar smothered in sugar deep-fried in sugar.
Thank you imgur!
I have to confess, it was nice to get back into our "new routine". I still don't love meal prep and I still hate the amount of dishes we have to do (2nd load of the week happened tonight!). Buuuut I love that I don't feel bloated and gross ever anymore. I love that I don't have to find the bathroom in a moment's notice because something disagreed with me. (TMI. You're welcome.) I like that I've lost 13 lbs in less than a month, and that there's a sincere hope if I step it up for the next 3 weeks, I could lose that amount or more!

Naturally because I ate junk last week, it made my taste buds kick into high gear for more junk. Rude, right? The last few days have been tough, but I've made some really impressive [for me] choices.

"Like what, Redhead?!"

I'll tell you! :D We were with our small group last night and someone provided a dozen Duck Donuts to celebrate a friend's birthday. For someone on a diet, it was sweet torture.

Then they sat 2 feet from my face for the next hour. Seriously. Sprinkles were making uncomfortably intimate eye contact with me. Actually it was kinda like this:

So nice I used it twice. I have no regrets.
In my head I thought about splitting 1 with the Bearded Wonder. Then that seemed like a bad idea, so I thought he and I should split 1/2 of a donut- 1/4 each. But that still seemed like a bad idea, so I thought about just lopping off a small piece. While that was unbearably appealing, I knew it would be too much. So I considered a sliver. An actual, bonafide sliver- something just to give me a tiny taste of that sweet, sweet glory.

I didn't do it.

I'm equal parts proud and sad (see: heavy breathing gif above). =P I have high hopes that round 2 will be as successful for us, and that I'll reach my goal by my 30th birthday! I have 9 months (to the day almost!). I can make some serious progress in 9 months, I just have to keep up with it now!

  1. Homemade ketchup may be a project you might like to tackle sometime. You don't need to can it, just bag and freeze portions. That way you can control salt and sugar levels. I promise, it really does taste way better then regular store bought. (Maybe Gourmet store bought. The kind that comes in cute, super tiny, super expensive jars.)

Shame Eating

I found the above image on the interwebs and it always makes me laugh. All.the.time. It's kinda true though, right? IF you've ever had any kind of food addiction then you know the sweet sweet embrace of "one more" handful of kettle corn (ahem), or "one more" piece of bread, or whatever . I was joking with my co-worker that I might as well be shame eating out of the Costco-sized bag of Kettle corn on my counter in the dark, licking the sweet and salty remnants off my fingers. That I can't be trusted alone with it. That I grab a bigger-than-small bowl and PILE it up, lamenting the few rogue pieces that make it to the floor. Another colleague overheard us and said she used to do that with angel food cake. She would sit it on the passenger side and just drive, picking at the fluffy confection. I know a girl who could knock out an entire family size container of Sara Lee pound cake. So friends, those are a few confessions. Using the powers of anonym

Not really proud...

(Redhead's Note: Please forgive anything that's more lame than normal, or anything that sounds weird; I'm on a constant regimen of cough syrup...) I started getting a chest tickle on the 8th, which quickly escalated to a hacking cough, and now 6 days later has my left nostril clogged. I'm sick. Lame sauce, I know. When I'm sick I'm kind of a pathetic being: I get whiny, I'm tired all the time, I'm fairly selfish ("Your car died?? But... But...  I'm sick ....") * - it's not a pretty sight. What else tends to happen is I will eat a lot. I'm not one of those people that gets sick and doesn't eat for 3 days. Oh if only! Nope, I'm that girl that gets sick and will find every last semblance of comfort food, and vacuum it up into my sick mouth hole. Handful of chocolate chips? Don't mind if I do. A small-ish spoon of Nutella? Yes please? 4 lbs of bread? Why don't mind if I do! Thankfully the only real example f

All of it burns. All of it.

Sooo for those of you who don't know, I went to the gym yesterday! Woohoo! And just to prove it wasn't all talk, here are some pictures to describe how I feel today: Yep. That's about where I am right now. It took a "little" longer than normal to sit on the commode this morning after I woke up, and I was cursing the day that we bought a townhome with 3 flights of stairs . I've started tracking my workouts on Fito again, and I have to say it's really satisfying to get points. I mean, it's not like the points mean anything, but it still brings some silly joy when a robot calculates your workout and then you're awarded points which eventually lead to you leveling up. Also as a point of accountability: behold my workout from yesterday! :) Ow. That lovely little workout earned me 246 points and some super sore muscles. I'm going to go back today because I know working out more will help, but ugghhh. Not really looking forward
