So we finished our first round of 21 day fix! We decided to take a week off and then resume on Monday the 8th. Someone asked me why we decided to take a week off- why didn't we just keep doing it?
Well, in short... I guess I wanted to see what would happen. Would I continue my fancy new healthy habits, or would I go back to huge spoonfuls of nutella and endless pieces of bread? (Shut up, this is a judgement-free zone!)
So how did we do? I'm sure you're all just dying to know. ;)
Well, we did... Ok? It started out pretty good. We still had a lot of food prepped from the Fix so it made sense to just keep eating healthily. I tried a donut sample from Whole Foods (which means it was probably super healthy), and I took 1 small bite and had to throw the rest out- it was just too sweet! I went out to dinner with a friend and we split a sandwich and the fries. It was just enough, I was really satisfied, aaannnd I realized that ketchup is crazy sweet.
It did go a bit downhill for me towards the end of the week. Hubbins has never had a ravenous sweet tooth. I, on the other hand, salivate at the mere mention of dessert. I get this crazy-eyed look, my hair stands up on end, and my tongue does a jig of joy until dessert is in my mouth, in which case there are grunts of happiness.
I know. Vivid picture. You. Are. Welcome.
So yeah. I'm "kind of" into desserts. and sugar poured on sugar smothered in sugar deep-fried in sugar.
I have to confess, it was nice to get back into our "new routine". I still don't love meal prep and I still hate the amount of dishes we have to do (2nd load of the week happened tonight!). Buuuut I love that I don't feel bloated and gross ever anymore. I love that I don't have to find the bathroom in a moment's notice because something disagreed with me. (TMI. You're welcome.) I like that I've lost 13 lbs in less than a month, and that there's a sincere hope if I step it up for the next 3 weeks, I could lose that amount or more!
Naturally because I ate junk last week, it made my taste buds kick into high gear for more junk. Rude, right? The last few days have been tough, but I've made some really impressive [for me] choices.
"Like what, Redhead?!"
I'll tell you! :D We were with our small group last night and someone provided a dozen Duck Donuts to celebrate a friend's birthday. For someone on a diet, it was sweet torture.
Then they sat 2 feet from my face for the next hour. Seriously. Sprinkles were making uncomfortably intimate eye contact with me. Actually it was kinda like this:
In my head I thought about splitting 1 with the Bearded Wonder. Then that seemed like a bad idea, so I thought he and I should split 1/2 of a donut- 1/4 each. But that still seemed like a bad idea, so I thought about just lopping off a small piece. While that was unbearably appealing, I knew it would be too much. So I considered a sliver. An actual, bonafide sliver- something just to give me a tiny taste of that sweet, sweet glory.
I'm equal parts proud and sad (see: heavy breathing gif above). =P I have high hopes that round 2 will be as successful for us, and that I'll reach my goal by my 30th birthday! I have 9 months (to the day almost!). I can make some serious progress in 9 months, I just have to keep up with it now!

Homemade ketchup may be a project you might like to tackle sometime. You don't need to can it, just bag and freeze portions. That way you can control salt and sugar levels. I promise, it really does taste way better then regular store bought. (Maybe Gourmet store bought. The kind that comes in cute, super tiny, super expensive jars.)
ReplyDeleteI always have been a sucker for cute super tiny, super expensive jars... =P
