I need some reeeeeee-breath-eeeeessst

Hi friends!

I'm not tired for the reasons Madeline Kahn is, but who doesn't love a Blazing Saddles reference in the morning? ;)

So it was a loooong weekend for the Memorial Day holiday. While Memorial Day is about remembering the sacrifice our troops have made for us, it's also become known as the day of BBQ and potato salad. I myself went to a cookout and was a little nervous about how I'd do with my newer eating habits.

I think I did good and not-as-good. Our friends made little sliders, so while I had a few, I didn't feel terrible about it. Plus I didn't load them up with condiments and toppings. I had ½ a grilled pineapple ring on each little slider, plus ½ a strip of bacon. So really it wasn't too bad. I did eat the bread, but you know what stuff happens. It is absolutely exhausting feeling guilty about what you've eaten. EXHAUSTING! So I just celebrated with my friends instead.

Now, I may have gone a little overboard on the cookies (sigh), but I had a tiny sliver of apple pie and a smaaallll spoon of vanilla ice cream. I'd say overall it still wasn't terribly bad, especially given that it was at a weird lunch/dinner time, so I had 1 eating time for 2 meals, technically. Did that make any sense?

Sorry, I may be distracted by more Blazing Saddles videos on YouTube.

Anywho. I'm back to my smaller portions and [hopefully] reduced sugar intake. I wanted to go to the gym on Monday, but it ended up not happening with our craaaazzzy long day. Then yesterday I intended to go but The Redhead got nooo sleep the night before. I don't function well on no sleep.

I basically looked like this yesterday:

Pretty sexy, really. Glad I got a guy locked in before he saw this….
So today, I am back at the gym! I'm pretty excited really. I haven't been since Friday, which bums me off and throws off my plan a little, but at least I'm getting back! The Bearded Wonder and I may be going to his gym on Saturday for an "active date". Mostly because I keep telling him I need to see some kickin' form for deadlifts since I don't think I'm doing them right… Harrumph.

How was your weekend, friends? Did you eat well, exercise, anything?
Orrrrr
What was the worst thing you ate? :-)

  1. Good job at paying attention to what you eat! My Memorial Day weekend is stretching into an entire week unfortunately. This includes lots of going out to eat, dessert, and snacks. But hey, Im on vacation!! Thankfully theres no scale here so I can't worry about it until I get home. =P

  2. You did better than I did at that BBQ on Monday. I felt like all I did was eat from the moment I got there till part way through the card game.... But the food was SO GOOD!!!! (BTW, Did you get some of Laurie's homemade salsa-like dip? YUM!) So props to you for being able to stick to your guns with all that temptation around! WOOT! :-)

Oh, and the best, worst thing that I ate was the Chocolate Raspberry pie. My man definitely knows one of my weaknesses! ;-)

Shame Eating

I found the above image on the interwebs and it always makes me laugh. All.the.time. It's kinda true though, right? IF you've ever had any kind of food addiction then you know the sweet sweet embrace of "one more" handful of kettle corn (ahem), or "one more" piece of bread, or whatever . I was joking with my co-worker that I might as well be shame eating out of the Costco-sized bag of Kettle corn on my counter in the dark, licking the sweet and salty remnants off my fingers. That I can't be trusted alone with it. That I grab a bigger-than-small bowl and PILE it up, lamenting the few rogue pieces that make it to the floor. Another colleague overheard us and said she used to do that with angel food cake. She would sit it on the passenger side and just drive, picking at the fluffy confection. I know a girl who could knock out an entire family size container of Sara Lee pound cake. So friends, those are a few confessions. Using the powers of anonym...

Frustrations & Fertility

The Bearded Wonder and I got married on a sunny Saturday afternoon in September 2013. Barring a few minor hiccups, the day was pretty perfect. Per the (unfortunate) societal norms, people started asking questions like "So, next comes baby, right?" or "When are you guys going to start popping out kids?".  Between me, you, and the Internet, I was a virgin when I got married so I was in ZERO rush to start having kids. I wanted to enjoy being married for awhile, hopefully travel, and just settle in to living with this person I'd never lived with before.  It's funny to me now, looking back on those first few years. The Bearded Wonder had some job transitions which led to some tight finances. We got by (not without help), but I was in a constant state of fear that I'd get pregnant. We were just floating with the 2 of us, but adding a baby in the mix? Yikes. Definitely not the right time. I remember calling my best friend in a panic, "I'm crav...
